Welcome to Otero!

Otero is honored to serve as the home to many military families. Due to our proximity to Fort Carson military post, we provide center-based programs that support a variety of family needs. Otero is dedicated to enhancing the military community by offering high-quality education, military counseling, and additional resources.

We take pride in recognizing our families throughout the year, especially during our annual Veteran's Day Assembly. This event features guest speakers, songs, and more to celebrate the sacrifices made by our military families. Understanding the unique challenges they face, Otero also provides opportunities to increase connectedness through individual supports and small group activities.

Relocation & Student Enrollment

Relocation Support: Visit Harrison School District 2 Website for district-wide enrollment resources.
Enroll: New families can begin enrollment online or in person. Proof of residency and immunization records are required.
Register: Once enrolled, families can complete registration forms through the district's secure parent portal.
Records Transfer: Our military liaison will work directly with your prior school ensure academic records are transferred promptly and accurately.

Academic Planning & Course Offering

At Otero, we're committed to providing a fun, hands-on learning experience for every child. Our STEAM program sparks curiosity through activities in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math, while math comes to life with interactive tools that help students truly understand concepts. We also foster a love reading using multisensory techniques that engage all learning styles.

With six specialized programs, we offer personalized instruction to meet each child's needs in an inclusive, supportive environment. To make learning even more exciting, our students enjoy field trips that connect classroom lessons to real-world experiences. At Otero, we're focused on helping every child grow, learn, and succeed.

Resources

USO Colorado Springs: Helps kids connect socially after moving.

Operation Homefront: Transitional housing and emergency financial help.

Fort Carson Army Community service (ACS): Relocation readiness, financial counseling, EFMP (Exceptional Family Member Program), and new parent support. Great for families PCS'ing to/from Fort Carson and needing full wraparound support.

Mount Carmel Veterans Service Center: Transition and behavioral health support, peer navigators, and family services for military families, including youth camps and family activities.

YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region-Military Outreach Program: Free or discounted memberships and programs for military families, including youth camps and family activities.

Housing and Family services at Fort Carson: Transition support through housing, relocation briefings, and family readiness services.

As the school counselor and military family liaison at Otero, I am honored to support our military connected students and families. I serve as a point of contact to help ease transitions, provide emotional and academic support, and ensure every student feels a strong sense of belonging. Together, we honor the strength and sacrifice of our military community by fostering resilience, connection and care in every child's school journey.
